Website research

A clearer website check starts with an evidence trail

Organize the website, policy and identity information you can observe—and make the gaps part of your research.

A clearer website check starts with an evidence trail

Keep the source, the observation and your interpretation separate. Missing evidence should stay visible.

Define the question you are investigating

A polished storefront can make a strong first impression, but appearance does not answer every question about a website. Start with a concrete question: what does the site claim, and what evidence would help you evaluate that claim?

A focused question keeps the check useful. Record the specific page or offer you are reviewing rather than treating a homepage as a complete picture of the business.

Record the pages behind your observations

When you find information about contact details, delivery, returns or product claims, save the page address and the date you viewed it. If a page changes later, that note helps explain what your research was based on.

Distinguish information supplied by the website from information supplied by an independent source. Multiple pages repeating the same statement are not necessarily independent confirmation.

Compare information across the journey

Look for consistency between the product page, policy pages and the information available before checkout. If wording differs, describe the difference precisely and keep a copy of the relevant text.

An inconsistency may need clarification. It does not automatically establish deception, and a consistent set of pages does not guarantee a safe transaction.

Use a simple research checklist

A checklist makes the process repeatable without turning it into a score that hides uncertainty.

  • What is the exact claim or question?

  • Which source supports each observation?

  • When was the information checked?

  • What conflicts with the claim?

  • What remains inaccessible or unverified?

Keep the result in context

Website intelligence can help gather and explain observable signals. Read any result alongside its confidence and evidence coverage.

A warning is a prompt for closer inspection. An absence of warnings means only that no warning was established from the material checked; it is not a guarantee about every part of the website or a future purchase.
