A practical guide

How to use the evidence fingerprint & consistency checker

Supply the evidence

Supply the supported evidence file or fingerprint, metadata and earlier versions where available. Only analyze material you are permitted to use.

Read the result

Review SHA-256 byte fingerprints and consistency observations across the supplied evidence versions. The original uploaded file is not retained by this workflow.

Check the limits

A matching hash confirms matching bytes, not genuine origin or truthful content. Metadata may be absent or altered and cannot by itself prove that an image or document is unedited.

Questions about this tool

Can a SHA-256 hash prove that a document is authentic?

No. It can show that bytes match a reference, but the reference's source and truthfulness must be independently established. Keep provenance and collection context with the fingerprint.

How should I interpret missing evidence?

Missing evidence means the assessment has less support or coverage. It does not establish safety or wrongdoing. Review the sources and dates, and independently verify the gaps that matter to your decision.
